What is Mansonellosis?
Mansonellosis – filariasis, characterized by allergic reactions, benign course.
Mansonellosis is common in Central and South America, as well as in a number of Caribbean countries.
Causes of Mansonellosis
The causative agent is Mansonella ozzardi. Adult parasites in humans are rarely found. Microfilariae live in the blood, the daily rhythm of access to the peripheral vessels is absent.
The size of the female is 73 × 0.3 mm, the male 32 mm, microfilaria 173-240 × 4-5 microns. Microfilariae without cap. Mature filarias are localized under the serous membrane of the peritoneum, in the mesentery, in the body cavities.
Pathogenesis during Mansonellosis
The source of the pathogen and the final host – the person, the intermediate carrier of the pathogen and the host – biting midges of the genus Culicoides and midge of the genus Simulium.
Symptoms of Mansonellosis
Many experts believe this helminth non-pathogenic, but infection with them is accompanied by headache, arthralgia, fever, symptoms of lung lesions, an increase in lymph nodes, hepatomegaly, itching, eosinophilia.
Diagnosis of Muncellosis
The diagnosis is made at detection of microfilariae in blood.
Mannouslosis Treatment
Effective antiparasitic agents have not yet been found. There is only one report on the effectiveness of ivermectin.
